It is difficult to remember such a spotlight on government spending, as an increasingly unbelievable public is forced to try and decipher trillion dollar deficits and so on. We do nevertheless need to encourage government action sometimes to spur major changes in the way that we live for our own good, especially when it comes to energy. We now know of multiple reasons why we should reduce our reliance on traditional fossil fuels. These include scarcity, security, the threat of terrorism, the lack of control and not the least, greenhouse gas emissions. Many of these issues combine to drive up the cost of fossil fuel supplied energy and we are aware that fuel inflation is far ahead of general inflation.

Federal energy efficiency grants have been introduced during 2009 and will likely accelerate in availability during 2010. The Recovery Act made available over $3 billion as part of the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program and within this schedule, nonprofit organizations and government agencies could receive grants to enable them to perform energy efficiency retrofits, as an example. The Recovery Act allocated over $60 billion in total toward energy related projects, studies and development of renewable energy options and federal energy efficiency solutions.

Taxpayer funds spent wisely at this stage in our development, even though the federal deficit is so large, will surely pay dividends in the future. Not only must we reduce the size of our national carbon footprint to cut back on greenhouse gas emissions and slow the pace of climate change, but we must all operate more efficiently for future security. National infrastructure, the distribution grid and production facilities are sometimes struggling to keep up with an increasing demand and this situation is only like to become more critical. If every organization and individual takes responsibility for reducing its energy use, then we will go a long way to alleviating some of these problems.

Congress is debating wide reaching legislation which could force the larger users of energy to trade for the rights to produce carbon as a consequence of using energy. This is also known as a “cap and trade” program and could force such organizations to become sustainable very quickly. If such legislation is to pass, it will likely also make available federal energy efficiency grants to help organizations comply.

If a company engages in retrofitting its existing systems, it can achieve savings of up to 35% rather quickly. Retrofitting is gaining in popularity very quickly as it presents an organization with the opportunity to enjoy considerable savings at relatively low cost. Almost every organization relies on an HVAC system to enable its operation. As these are traditionally one of the larger users of energy in a business, retrofitting such a system should be investigated rather urgently.

The ACES Act is likely to be passed during the course of 2010 and federal energy efficiency grants made available to help organizations become sustainable.

History will tell whether the Recovery Act signed into power by Pres. Obama in early 2009 will have had any effect on curbing or even reversing the Great Recession. Early indicators appear to show that government action has indeed stemmed what could have been a very significant acceleration of the problems and even though the content of the Act remains somewhat controversial, many elements within were designed to look at the broader picture.

The Act was designed to promote reinvestment and to help the country become more efficient as we move forward. Within its voluminous pages, many billions of dollars were made available for energy efficiency and to help push forward renewable energy programs. As part of this initiative, more funds went toward the creation of a truly smart grid, for weatherization programs, for renewable energy projects and for energy retrofitting.

Energy is at the core of everything that we do and each organization relies on its use and must be responsible for consequent carbon emissions. While the Recovery Act focused primarily on economic and financial issues, much of the content recognized that we must all become much leaner in our requirements and seek to be more energy efficient as we reposition ourselves.

While the Recovery Act allocated more than $60 billion towards energy related projects, much of this funding was directed toward the smart grid. This is seen as an essential part of our future as our distribution systems are incapable of keeping up with the demand currently. These inefficiencies contribute to the growing cost of energy as related to other essential purchases.

Every organization must consider its carbon footprint and what it can do to reduce the size. This will require a full understanding of how each company operates, where it uses electricity and energy and how these liabilities may be reduced. Each asset or piece of equipment must operate as efficiently as possible in the carbon economy of tomorrow. This especially applies to HVAC systems, most often the largest consumer of energy in a company. While only $4 billion was allocated through the Recovery Act for energy efficient retrofits, in government buildings and nonprofit organizations, more action is likely to follow within subsequent Acts currently passing through Congress.

The Recovery Act was not focused purely on energy related subjects, but the American Clean Energy and Security Act certainly is. In early 2010, Congress is likely to take up this piece of legislation and many observers believe that it will be passed in one way or another and move forward to Pres. Obama for signature. This Act contains many provisions, one of which is the creation of a market trading scheme to force companies to purchase the rights to use energy and pollute carbon. This will become a significant challenge for the organization. However, other provisions within this Act may make funds available in the form of grants and incentives to those organizations retrofitting existing systems or taking other measures to markedly improve energy efficiency.

Business owners are finding that they have to spend more than just the relevant amount of time contemplating ways to save money. It is difficult enough to solicit new business as it is, but with skyrocketing energy costs, a critically competitive playing field and calls from every sector of society to cut back, frugality is the buzzword. Every owner is looking for ten energy-saving tips today, just to help them stand still in competitive terms.

It may seem very obvious, but lights must be turned off when not in use. They should be attached to sensors unless the room in question is in regular use around the clock. Office equipment should be powered down and disconnected from power sources overnight, contrary to common practice. Electronic office equipment stores heat internally when left on, a graphic example of wasted energy.

Make an investment in the future by changing all the light bulbs in your entire operation to Energy Star rated bulbs, compact fluorescent lamps or light emitting diodes. When multiplied in number and over a period of time your savings will undoubtedly be significant.

Use natural sunlight to light rooms wherever possible. Investigate the purchase of automatic blinds and drapes which can be programmed to let in additional light and keep out excessive solar heat during those hot summer days.

Your heating, ventilation and air conditioning costs are primary and should be at the head of the list when it comes to investigating ten energy saving tips. A regular scheduled maintenance should include evaporator and condenser as well as filtration systems and a regular check for leaks of any kind will pay dividends in the long run.

HVAC systems are notoriously difficult to replace so they should be retrofitted as soon as possible, using some of the proprietary energy-saving devices available. Look for grants, incentives and rebates as these are becoming increasingly more available to encourage business owners to retrofit.

When replacing office equipment, always purchase Energy Star rated items. Consider a laptop computer instead of desktop, as these are much more efficient and equally as powerful these days. They use up to 90% less energy than conventional computers, anyway.

Have a good look at thermostats in all your buildings and adjust them by 1° up or down according to the season. This will have very little, if any “feel” yet will make a big difference to your utility costs. Remember that your programmable thermostats should be appropriately adjusted for days and hours when the buildings are empty.

Insulation is very important, especially when it comes to heat storage tanks or cooling devices. If insulation materials are not adequate these units could spend hours needlessly maintaining a certain temperature due to this inefficiency.

While equipment can be purchased and/or programmed to work for us when it comes to energy-saving, your biggest savings may be enjoyed if you energize your staff. Human behavior accounts for a great deal of our wasted energy and you should make sustainable education a priority amongst your staff. Come up with ten energy-saving tips yourself and make sure that they are ingrained into the corporate psyche.

We have learned many new buzzwords during the year 2009. These include “toxic assets,” “government bailout,” “too big to fail” and “public option,” among others. It seems that 2009 may well have been the year of the buzzwords, as we attribute terminology to try and help us understand and explain what on earth went wrong. Another of the buzzwords, one which we are more likely to here time and again in 2010 is energy efficiency. Consulting organizations are springing up everywhere to help organizations large and small cope with the threats and opportunities posed. Quite simply, every organization must do its best to become sustainable (buzzword alert!), as our society is increasingly critical of those who do not and will essentially demand energy efficient operations.

Energy efficiency consulting is a growth industry, as it becomes clear that much political pressure will be put forward to force us all to become sustainable. If we look at the United Kingdom, long one of the USA’s staunchest trading allies, we see that a government initiated scheme is about to commence, forcing the larger energy users and emitters to cut back. In the long run, those that cannot or do not may be driven out of business competitively, as they will not be able to afford to exist in a trading environment based on the price of carbon. There is a lot to lose, but also a lot to be gained by companies that are proactive and see the glass as half-full.

If a company is able to fully analyze its very way of doing business, see how each asset or system uses energy or emits carbon and takes steps to put in place efficiencies, systems and solutions, then it is difficult to imagine it failing in the new carbon economy. If legislation is put in place, those organizations that perform better than average will in turn become more competitive in the marketplace. Quite apart from cutting back their emissions, they will also significantly reduce the high expense of purchasing energy in the first place.

Energy efficiency will in future be seen as a core requirement for an organization. Individual corporate initiatives could be bolstered through the introduction of a truly smart distribution grid in due course. If we were able to distribute and consume our energy as efficiently as possible, we would undoubtedly cut down our fossil fuel based energy needs, benefiting the country as a whole from a security standpoint and making steps to ensure that climate change is slowed, if not reversed.

In terms of energy efficiency, consulting work is still in its infancy. A majority of organizations simply do not understand the growing and impending threat carbon poses. Education and steering will be in great demand as the threat becomes more apparent.

The U.S. government is particularly focused on the issue of energy efficiency, as we enter the new year. With much fanfare, a Copenhagen meeting brought together almost 200 nations from around the world to discuss the new international global warming protocol. Domestically, attention is also being given to the need for efficiency promoted by the considerable economic downturn. We are all now very aware of how carbon emissions slated to energy use have caused damage to our environment, but we are also aware that we need to be more efficient in our day-to-day operations anyway. From every perspective, energy efficiency is required to help us become more stable and secure as we look to the future.

One of the initiatives presented by the federal government is called the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy office and a number of distinct eere programs have been designed to help in the research and development of energy efficiency and renewable energy. The office has said that it wants to promote the nation’s energy security, environmental quality and economic vitality, all lofty and important goals. Public and private partnerships would be fostered as these goals are sought and the public educated about the right way to approach these issues in future.

10 distinct eere programs have been constructed by the office and each program devotes resources to research, development and collaboration within a particular field of energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Of particular interest to building owners and operators is the eere program devoted to building technology itself. From a commercial perspective, the goal is to achieve marketable net zero energy buildings by the year 2025, while there is also a call to achieve similar objectives for homes by 2020. Another government agency, the EPA is assisting as technologies are revealed and design approaches considered.

State governments and utility operations are able to take advantage of another of the eere programs, which provides funding through grants to help with renewable energy production, local energy education and weatherization.

Since Pres. Obama came to power, he has taken further steps toward energy efficiencies. On the basis that the federal government should lead by example, he has issued an executive order which essentially brings each agency toward a more sustainable future. Specific goals must be set to reduce carbon emissions, while essentially all federal buildings must become more energy efficient and sustainable by the year 2020.

The Recovery Act also allows for energy efficiency incentives and the ACES Act, still in discussion within Congress, allows considerable funding for those building operators or owners who will conduct retrofitting of their existing installations.

Government programs to initiate research and to provide funding for development are only one part of the equation. The problem is very significant and is likely to require legislation to force organizations to become more sustainable, energy efficient and to reduce their carbon emissions. This is likely to be achieved through market-driven forces, a carrot and stick approach or what is commonly known as a “cap and trade” scheme. These market forces will convert carbon into a tradable commodity and will thus naturally help to reduce the associated emissions. These and individual initiatives will undoubtedly drive energy efficiency.

The Energy Efficiency Program is specially developed to make the environment green and clean. The Energy efficiency program concentrates to save energy and to lessen the environmental degradation. The Energy efficiency program focuses on to choosing optional sources like solar power, bio-fuels, and bio-gas.

The Energy efficiency program is based to decrease harmful greenhouse gases and other types of pollutants in the environment. Presently, many researches are being carried out everyday to reduce the effect of global warming and other types of harmful gases.

These days, people are rapidly enrolling themselves into various energy efficiency programs. Energy efficiency program basically focuses on saving energy in your home and industries. Homes and industries are the perfect places where there lots of energy consumption.

Most homes are not at all properly insulated and don’t have the right kind of ventilation. There is always a huge rise in the room temperature due to the use of different types of electric devices. Use of an attractive but energy efficient houses give maximum exposure to the electricity savings.

You have to check your room insulation and seal leakage that exits room temperature to the outside atmospheres. Well, to get real success you need to plan out everything correctly and for this you must get enrolled in energy efficiency program. Today! It is unknown to lots of homeowners, the well insulated home extends just an exterior wall and attic. Construction of the new homes gives an opportunity to adjoin the ecological features, which make sure perfect settings for the energy effective living. Each and every individual craves for the healthy living as well as considers home as best place of security. Energy Efficient Houses give most favorable surroundings all along with the great energy savings. House is a place where the person looks for a few relaxation & spends some time with their family. Energy Efficient Houses have some advantages when compared to some other usual houses. The edifices reduce big construction costs & wastes. They reduce callback & warranty problems.

Currently, energy efficiency homes are becoming one of the primary alternatives of everyone and this will augment their significance. Over the past few years, there has been a boost in the green building homes sell. Lots of contractors, builders and homebuyers are actually concerned towards energy efficiency homes.

Recently, our world is facing several troubles related to green house gases, global warming, pollution, and other types of heat radiation. These polluted problems can only be checkered by energy efficiency constructed buildings or by accepting retrofitting construction.

At the present time, retrofitting construction buildings is becoming one of the inexpensive ways to save energy. The most common problem that lots of homes and buildings are facing is insulation.

If your building is not properly insulated then it will emit heat radiation and also your home sealing will get leakage. This will bring lots of energy wastage and an increase in the electric bills. Energy efficiency homes are the most excellent solution for these types of household issues.

Only retrofitting building materials can solve these types of problems. Retrofitting materials are easily available in the market and are comes in affordable price. This could be one of the outstanding energy efficiency ways to save your home and also your planet. By using the cooler water settings when it is possible and allowing few things air dry are little acts with the big returns.

The household energy audit is not very bad idea. The Austin Energy has also qualified the professionals, but fast perusal of web shows there are lots of companies out there that is giving the service. Couple of hundred dollars that are spent on audit is likely to get back with suggested home energy. Austin Energy also offers you the free improvements to the low income customers with the services such as attic insulation, caulking, duct repair, and solar screens. All these are the things that intrepid homeowner can do on their own,. Keep in mind, these little things will definitely make the big difference.

Energy efficiency solutions will save householders money and also give them energy efficient home. Energy efficiency solutions are specially designed to lower down carbon footprint. At present, to save energy is becoming an important slogan of every individual and this can only be done by energy efficiency solutions.

The most important thing is that energy efficiency solutions will help to improve your home and will save money on the cost utility. Well, energy efficiency solutions are really easy and you can try them right from your home.

First, you need to seal those air leakage passages to reduce energy wastage. Try to eliminate dirty air from your home, as this will make your home healthy. Use building retrofitting gears to protect your home from insulation, sealing leakage, air leakage, water dripping and other flaws.

Use new style of blinds and eliminate those old-fashioned curtains and drapes. Avoid using air conditioner, as they consume lots of energy, instead ceiling fans are the best cooling devices in the summer season. For better energy efficiency solutions, avoid using electric devices those consume lots of energy.

Use eco-friendly home furnishing materials for your home exterior and interior design. The most excellent energy efficiency solutions are planting lots of trees in your surroundings.

The energy efficiency means to get most power from every volt of the electricity. By performing the mechanical operations (that your appliances do) needs certain amount of the power. But, the new technology will allow the mechanical “short-cuts’ that will get same task to be done by using the less energy. That is the energy efficiency, also it will save you lots of money!

Problem with most of the energy efficient devices is they will cost you more money to buy. The dreadful attribute will make most of the customers take a close look and after that leave. Only a smart people will realize that it can save them lots of money in long run. For instance, take a close look at the fluorescent light bulbs. The fluorescent light bulbs are rather costly, pack of 8 will cost from $40 to $75.

The federal deficit gets larger and larger and represents a sum of money that is almost impossible to quantify or to imagine for the average person. Just what is $1 trillion anyway? While there are any number of good causes soliciting government intervention, some programs need to be pushed forward to completion rather urgently for the good of us all. This is especially true when it comes to energy related issues, as we know that we can no longer rely on traditional, non-renewable sources of fossil fuels. These options are becoming more scarce, are the subject of artificial price capping, can be generally out of control and most significantly, result in greenhouse gas emissions and the huge problem of climate change.

To encourage organizations to become more sustainable as part of a national effort to make changes, business energy efficiency grants are in the pipeline. A significant piece of legislation within Congress is the American Clean Energy and Security Act, which has already passed through the House of Representatives. Should this legislation ultimately be signed into law, business energy efficiency grants and incentives could be made available to help make buildings sustainable and each company’s operations more efficient. It is predicted that up to 50% of the cost of an energy efficiency program may be made available through such grants or incentives and this should be a major instigator for change.

It is always difficult to justify significant taxpayer expenditure, especially in the light of so many economic and financial issues these days. However, when viewed from a holistic perspective, business energy efficiency grants made available by the government would certainly help to make our organizations more efficient and better able to trade in a competitive global marketplace. As such, these initiatives can be looked at as an investment in the future of the country and can be adequately justified therefore.

A typical organization is reliant on HVAC systems and can account for the cost of such systems very well. Up to 50% of a typical monthly utility bill can be allocated towards HVAC costs and the systems should be a primary focus of our attention as we try and make our buildings and operations sustainable. Retrofitting solutions are available and are low-cost alternatives to a complete system replacement. Nevertheless, organizations are reluctant to spend money on such projects and this is where business energy efficiency grants could really help to make a significant change around the country.

Retrofitting is sure to become a very hot topic in the months and years ahead. We’re sure to see government action to push the trend toward sustainability and if mandatory rules are put in place, even more attention will be given to the need to reduce our reliance on energy. Every organization must research its options ahead of what is likely to be the year of major energy related initiatives.

It’s the demand for energy efficient products that is going higher because now everyone prefer to opt for energy efficiency products that can bring them a good mode for saving more money on their energy bills. Looking at the demand from people, the market for energy efficiency products is now offering more good deals on its selling materials. When you are buying an appliance, you are committed to offer both the buying cost and further the operating cost. And this process will continue as long as you own that appliance. For an example if you will calculate the whole cost for an appliance when its life is over, you will find that the operating cost will come significantly more than its buying cost. So, where is the deal? You have invested a lump sum amount for owning that appliance and now you have paid more than its actual cost while suing it. This is where the energy efficiency products can bring you more help. Every time you will opt to buy an energy efficiency product you can feel the difference!
